How protection works

Does an internet filter work away from home?

A router-only filter protects devices while they are connected to that router. Device-level DNS filtering can continue working when a child switches to mobile data, school Wi-Fi, or another household’s network.

Protection follows the configured device

Easy Family Filter uses the DNS capabilities already available on Android, iPhone, and Mac. Once setup is complete, the device sends supported DNS requests through the family’s filter across different internet connections.

How setup differs by platform

  • Android uses the built-in Private DNS setting
  • iPhone uses a guided configuration profile
  • Mac uses a guided configuration profile

What a reporting gap means

If a normally present device stops checking in, the filter may eventually surface that change. A gap does not prove bypassing. The device may be off, disconnected, asleep, away, or using changed network settings, so the first step should be checking setup.
